Personality Cult

I wasn't going to say anything on the growing personality cult of President Barack Obama. All leaders who wish to keep leading need to have some sort of cult in order to keep people interested in them. It is the nature of the beast.
I knew that President Obama's cult would be stronger than most because he has 100% of the media, Hollywood, and the press behind him. This is to be expected.
Then I saw this:

You pledge to be a servant of Barack Obama????? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?????? You pledge to be the President's servant????????? Is this a joke? Are you being serious?

This is dangerous territory. When people start pledging to other people my pucker factor goes up exponentially. When you pledge your loyalty to a person, it is no longer the country that you are working for, it is the person. Kings make you pledge to be their servant. Dictators make you pledge to be their servants. Most notably Hitler made all Germans pledge an oath to him.
America is about pledging loyalty to the Constitution. And what are the first words in the Constitution? WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. So when you pledge your self to be a servant of the Constitution, you are really pledging yourself to the people of the United States of America.
This is a pledge I can live with... One that pledges you to a man??? Nope. Not good.

I can't see what you embedded, so I'm likely posting before I have full context, but I do agree with any type of cult of personality existing within any organization (business, group, government, etc).

What I do think is that there are so many people so affected by Dubya's years in the Office that anyone saying anything differentiated from his stance was going to be embraced.

Totally agree. Bush was hated by the left, most of the right, and all 75 Libertarians in the country.

The worst part was that he neither defended himself against their attacks, or explained his actions.

BUT the modern presidents that had the most fanatical following, JFK, Nixon, Reagan, Carter, Clinton, no one EVER pledged themselves to be their servant.

This goes beyond the simple hero worship, or leader love, this is downright scary.
